Following up on her previous Image series, the fantasy thriller Unnatural, Mirka Andolfo now takes a turn into full-on horror with Mercy.

Set in turn-of-the-century Washington, Mercy follows the story of the occupants of a small mining town called Woodsburgh, and how they're affected by a looming terror that has infiltrated the area. The story kicks off with the mysterious circumstances revolving around Woodsburgh resident Lady Swanson, and new arrival Lady Hellaine.

Andolfo is in top form in this new series, setting up what seems like an eldritch horror story with some interesting hooks and a very memorable cast. The story is, of course, complemented by stellar art, with Andolfo's stylized line work being supported by a vivid and moody color scheme that sets the tone for story.

According to publisher Image Comics, Mercy intends to explore "otherness, damnation, redemption, and what it means to be a monster." I will certainly be adding this to my pull list.
